APPLE HONEY - HARRY ALLEN - FREE TRANSCRIPTION
I love Harry Allen’s playing, there’s something fresh about his ideas. Whilst firmly entrenched in the language of the masters he has taken that language and developed it further. He has his own distinctive sound which may or may not appeal to everyone but you can pick it’s Harry Allen on any recording from the first note he plays. His ballad playing is as lyrical as his fast tempo playing. I have transcribed the first four choruses of Harry’s solo on the tune ‘Apple Honey’ from the album ‘Live’ with Scott Hamilton - another one of my favourite tenor players. The tune is based on the changes to I got Rhythm and there are so many great lines in these solos for you to practice. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did transcribing it. - Kevin Leighton
